Rotary is built upon the motto of “Service Above Self” so it is appropriate for the Rotary Club of Indian Rocks Beach to create a way to honor those who have served our nation and communities. After the success of last year’s Flags For Service event, we are now taking orders for new banners to honor individuals who are current or retired members of our Military, Law Enforcement or First Responder services.
From Memorial Day 2023 until Flag Day, hundreds of U.S. Flags will be displayed at Chic-A-Si Park, Indian Rocks Beach, to show our appreciation for those who have sacrificed and dedicated themselves to help others. A slideshow of last year’s honorees is available below. We welcome everyone to come and observe the many heroes on display.
This year’s personalized banners, which will contain a different design from last year, will display the name, branch, rank, place of service and service time of someone’s special hero in the military, law enforcement or first responder. The display will end after our Flag Day celebration on noon of June 14th. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Proceeds from the project will be used to continue supporting various programs in our community and beyond. Specifically, a portion of this year’s proceeds will support Project Hero, a nonprofit dedicated to providing recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration services for injured veterans and first responders. Additionally, a portion will be used to promote a scholarship to honor Richard “Rick” Walker. Rick was an integral part of the Rotary Club of Indian Rocks Beach as well as Pinellas Suncoast Fire and Rescue.
THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN THIS YEAR’S EVENT. We will no longer be taking orders but hope you will participate again next year. If you have questions, please contact Paul J. Burns at 727-595-4540 or RotaryClubofIRB@gmail.com
